Collecting Bread Clips: How Bread Clips Are Changing Lives
Ann’s innovative approach to charity shines through her leadership of the Bread Clips initiative, a unique program that turns everyday waste into life-changing mobility aids. Ann has helped transform lives.
By rallying the entire office to participate in the collection of simple clips she donates them to the foundation. How exactly are bottle tops and bread tags used to buy a wheelchair? With the help of dedicated volunteers, significant amounts of bread tags and plastic bottle tops are gathered and then recycled by local recycling companies. These companies, in turn, pay for these collections and the funds are utilised to purchase wheelchairs.
One of the most recent recipients of a wheelchair obtained through the collection of bread clips is a young woman from Daliwe Township in the Eastern Cape, who was born with a speech impediment and without the use of her legs. After learning of her plight, enough clips were gathered to obtain a wheelchair. This is a shining example of how a community can work together to make a profound impact on someone's life.
